More on Daymaker

Our goal is for Daymaker to be delightful, impactful, and simple.
For you, our nonprofit partners, and the child you choose to help.

1

We partner with high-impact 501c3’s working in high-trauma/high poverty communities. Our partners provide descriptions, needs, and interests of the children they serve on a day-to-day basis. We turn these into the profiles you see.

2

We encourage you to choose a story that resonates—maybe one that reminds you of a niece or your own son. Choose the gifts you’d like to send, and add them to your cart. You can checkout with debit/credit card or Paypal through our secure, PCI-compliant payment processor.

3

Track the gifts at every step of the way as they’re shipped, delivered, and gifted. Remember that the gift itself is only part of the impact. With it, you are sending a message to the child that they are not alone, and that they are cared about by a new friend.

What it Means to Give

We really believe in giving. But not necessarily what one may think of when they hear the word "giving" or "charity."

To us, giving offers an incredible opportunity to grow as humans and feel a deeper connection to those around us—be it those living in different circumstances or your colleague at the desk to your right.

Compassion and generosity create all these crazy things in the brain—whether it’s an increase in dopamine, serotonin, or actually a strengthening of the TPJ region in the brain, which is severely underused by most people in today’s world.

Giving leads people to be more creative, open-minded, and more able to connect. In study after study, people are actually happiest when giving money or an item to somebody else compared to keeping it themselves.

At the highest level, it helps us feel like we belong to a greater thread that ties all of us humans together. And that—it simply makes life more yummy.

Okay, but what if I don’t feel those things yet and don’t feel called to give?

First off, that is totally okay. We are not wired to be so generous in our present world with so much coming at us. Our brains can actually "turn down" our compassion for others to prevent us from becoming overwhelmed.

But, that does not mean we lose the ability to become generous nor do we lose access to all the positive feelings associated with doing so. It is simply a matter of practice. The parts of our brain that are largely responsible for generosity and empathy are like muscles that needs building.

We want to help you build that muscle with a very simple act when you feel open to it. One act followed by another simple act can begin to activate the parts in our brain that regulate compassion and generosity.

Over time, as we continue to take each step into generosity, we realize, one day, we suddenly feel like generous people and feel like we belong to the greater thread that connects us all.

(A caveat: we are not brain researchers, and the preceding is our understanding from the things we’ve read and the people we’ve met)

Some Frequently Asked Questions

Daymaker works with local chapters of some of the most reputable nonprofits around the country who understand the unique needs in their communities. We add 501c3 partners in geographies where we have significant numbers of companies and employees looking to give.

As a team with a whole bunch of kids ourselves, we try and find manufacturers we love who are creating items that inspire, uplift, and bring joy to the kids we serve. We work with our nonprofit partners to build a wish list that meets present needs while also catering to a child’s interests.

Depending on the state, you may pay sales tax. All orders will have a shipping charge at present moment. We do our very best to offer the lowest shipping price we can by cross-referencing carriers, grouping orders, and shipping around certain dates. Do know: our process makes it much easier for our nonprofit partners to receive, track, and gift items compared to offline methods!

When your gift ships, the tracking number will be added to your orders page! You will also receive an email from us when we’ve been notified by FedEx/UPS that it’s been delivered.

It is. You’ll find your tax receipt in your donor profile!

You do not. You are welcome to buy one gift for one kid, fill an entire wish list, or buy gifts for multiple kids. Every gift carries a big impact.

We do not. You are buying the actual item and paying the retail price—just like you would with Amazon or Target.

That’s a-okay. There are a lot of reasons you may not feel called to this, and we honor those. We never encourage people to give out of obligation. We are here for you when/if you’re ready to give. If there is anything we can do to help you get excited, shoot us a message.

Absolutely. Each profile contains the description and wishes of the specific child described by our partners. The names are often changed for privacy reasons, but beyond that, it is a real kid out there in the world doing their very best.
